  • Facebook provides the best step by step guide just visit the following url and follow there easy instructions to create your app
    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/apps/register
Please note: Since we are using this facebook app only for our account there is no need to create an app icon, enter privacy policy or submit the app for review. The app will work in development mode just fine. This means that steps 10, 11 and "next steps" in teh facbeook guide can be skipped :-)

Configure the Facebook Crawler Plugin

https://Your-Site-Name/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=social-media&page=settings

  • Connect Fb Page Crawler with facebook App

Under the settings tab of the Plugin enter in the Facebook App ID/Secret.

Lets Add facebook Pages to Crawl :-)

  • Search

To setup a facebook url to crawl you must find a facebook page that provides content matching your theme. You can use google or facebook to search for users who are posting information at you want to import into your blog as posts.

Simply copy a facebook url into the "Facebook page Url" field and click "Save Changes". Do this for as many facebook pages as you would like.

Once you see the facebook page listed you can now work on the facebook crawler settings for this specific facebook page. You can control what facebook post type should be crawled (links, pictures, videos, text only posts, etc), What type of content type it should create on your website (blog, post, page, etc), what categroies it should be posted in on your website (uncategorized, blog, tech blog, etc) and finally what status theposts should have (preview, published, pending, draft, etc). Once you have completed configuring the settings for all of the facebook pages you added click save changes. Now all facebook pages will be crawled and the respective content will be created on your website.

As a final option you can import individual facebook posts into your website on the fly. This is a great feature for when you are going through facebook and see a single post that you want to have on your website. To do this we need to perform 3 tasks

  • Click on the Import a Feed link under FbCrawler settings
  • Authorize our facebook created app to access our account
  • import feeds we want to build our website content from

first click on the Import a Feed link as shown in the screenshot

that brings us to facebook where we are required to authorize the facebook app to access our account

Once authorized we are brought back to the import feed form where we can fill out the facebook url for the feed we want to import, what content types we want locally created, what categories on our website the content should be created in and what status should that content have (pending, published, preview...). Once saved the content is imported and we have a great piece of content for our visitors to enjoy.

Start your engines

Part 1: Setting up cron job to run the Fb Page Crawler system

In order for the script to run we need to set up cronjobs. These are scheduled jobs that will call our script to run at designated times. For example every 15 minutes. We recommend running the cron every 15 minutes.

Depending on your technical skill you can achieve this through a number of methods. Either setting them up directly on your linux/windows server or using a 3rd party service.

We recommend using cron-job.org. It is a free cron service that is reliable for achieving the needs of this Plugin.

Go to

https://cron-job.org
to register and login

Once logged into cron-job.org click on the cronjobs tab at the top

Then click on Create cronjob

  • Enter a title for this cronjob. i.e. Run Twitter Follow Script
  • Enter the script url. You get this again from the Twitter manager Config tab on your website
  • Set a scheduled time for running this cron. i.e. every 1 minute, only on wednesdays, etc. (We recommend 15 minutes)
  • Click save and you are done.
